If you'd like to bring your puppy and don't want to leave them in the room all day while you ski, there is a great doggy daycare called Tahoe's Best Friends, http://www.tahoebestfriends.com/. They are open 7am to 7pm for daycare. Seamus loves to hang out there while we ski.
Hotels
South Lake Tahoe is full of hotels ranging from budget to swanky. There are also casinos with nice hotels in the area. Many of the casinos are within walking distance of the Heavenly Gondola and Village.
I have stayed at the following places and would recommend them:
Howard Johnson's Express - Clean, convenient budget hotel. There is a great breakfast place in the same parking lot. They are dog friendly.
Park Tahoe - Nice, mid-range hotel located across the street from the Heavenly Gondola and Village. Also, dog friendly.
Rodeway Inn Casino Center. Nice, budget hotel with balconies. Located close to the lake and the Heavenly Gondola and Village. Again, dog friendly.
Expedia has some pretty decent prices listed, http://www.expedia.com/Hotel-Search?#&destination=South Lake Tahoe, California, United States of America&startDate=02/20/2015&endDate=02/22/2015&adults=2.
Also there are a lot of private rentals. AirBnB.com is a great source for those rentals.

Equipment Rental Options
Sports Basement - If you need rental equipment, I recommend getting it from Sports Basement. It's cheaper and easier. They let you pick it up as early as Tuesday and return it Monday and still only charge a weekend rate of $50. Here is the link to the information, http://community.
Heavenly and Other South Lake Tahoe Rental Options - You can also rent equipment at Heavenly or other vendors in the South Lake Tahoe area. Heavenly has a link to area providers. http://www.skiheavenly.com/plan-your-trip/equipment-rentals/equipment-rentals.aspx.
